Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.47% By Investing.com

Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Financials, Healthcare and Energy sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.47% to hit a new all time high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Westport Fuel Systems Inc (TSX:WPRT), which rose 29.41% or 1.45 points to trade at 6.38 at the close. Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC) added 5.33% or 0.94 points to end at 18.59 and goeasy Ltd (TSX:GSY) was up 4.77% or 8.18 points to 179.77 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Spin Master Corp (TSX:TOY), which lost 7.07% or 3.54 points to trade at 46.53 in late trade. Russel Metals Inc . (TSX:RUS) declined 5.91% or 2.13 points to end at 33.90 and Ero Copper Corp (TSX:ERO) shed 4.82% or 1.19 points to 23.51.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 494 to 469 and 112 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 2.42% or 43.75 to $1765.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.49% or 1.03 to hit $68.06 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.12% or 0.80 to trade at $70.49 a barrel.

CAD/USD was down 0.32% to 0.7968, while CAD/EUR rose 0.33% to 0.6775.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.57% at 92.778.
