India shares lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.13% By Investing.com

Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Banking, Metals and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.13%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.06%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN), which rose 4.70% or 110.75 points to trade at 2465.75 at the close. Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY) added 2.58% or 111.85 points to end at 4454.10 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL) was up 1.50% or 33.20 points to 2244.05 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC), which lost 1.68% or 12.35 points to trade at 724.05 in late trade. Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) declined 1.64% or 13.20 points to end at 792.30 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:LART) shed 1.48% or 21.95 points to 1461.80.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which rose 4.66% to 2465.75, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which was up 2.56% to settle at 4454.00 and HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which gained 1.65% to close at 1008.50.

The worst performers were Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which was down 1.56% to 1461.00 in late trade, ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which lost 1.38% to settle at 594.90 and State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 1.37% to 378.45 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 875 to 785 and 64 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1432 fell and 1418 advanced, while 173 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 4.89% to 20.1900 a new 1-month low.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.18% or 3.15 to $1732.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 1.45% or 0.95 to hit $64.44 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.42% or 0.98 to trade at $67.90 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.01% to 72.526, while EUR/INR rose 0.13% to 86.6250.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 91.767.
