Canada shares lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.95% By Investing.com

Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Healthcare, Energy and Industrials sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.95%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were OceanaGold Corporation (TSX:OGC), which rose 5.23% or 0.115 points to trade at 2.315 at the close. Osisko Mining Corp (TSX:OSK) added 4.18% or 0.14 points to end at 3.37 and B2Gold Corp (TSX:BTO) was up 3.70% or 0.23 points to 6.44 in late trade.

Biggest losers included OrganiGram Holdings Inc (TSX:OGI), which lost 10.40% or 0.34 points to trade at 2.93 in late trade. Aphria Inc (TSX:APHA) declined 8.63% or 1.560 points to end at 16.510 and Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED) shed 7.18% or 2.470 points to 31.930.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 645 to 394 and 99 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.43% or 7.65 to $1778.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.28% or 0.81 to hit $62.62 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.82% or 0.55 to trade at $66.50 a barrel.

CAD/USD was down 0.61% to 0.7927, while CAD/EUR fell 0.60% to 0.6587.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.16% at 91.195.
