India shares higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 1.18% By Investing.com

Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Banking, Public Sector Undertakings and Capital Goods sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 1.18%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.96%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL), which rose 4.82% or 6.60 points to trade at 143.50 at the close. HDFC Bank Ltd (NS:HDBK) added 3.64% or 55.60 points to end at 1584.75 and State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) was up 3.39% or 13.40 points to 409.00 in late trade.

Biggest losers included UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL), which lost 1.71% or 9.70 points to trade at 556.70 in late trade. Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS) declined 1.32% or 39.20 points to end at 2941.00 and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY) shed 0.94% or 42.15 points to 4453.00.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which rose 3.18% to 1577.80, Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which was up 2.63% to settle at 5525.10 and State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which gained 2.33% to close at 404.85.

The worst performers were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was down 1.38% to 2939.00 in late trade, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which lost 0.89% to settle at 4449.00 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 0.67% to 600.00 at the close.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1057 to 488 and 133 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1185 rose and 697 declined, while 1083 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 5.30% to 23.8900.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.06% or 1.15 to $1807.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.39% or 0.24 to hit $61.91 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.59% or 0.38 to trade at $64.86 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.11% to 72.299, while EUR/INR fell 0.05% to 87.8905.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.05% at 90.123.
