Japan seen raising economic growth forecasts for next fiscal year – Nikkei

TOKYO (Reuters) – Japan’s government is preparing to raise its estimate for next fiscal year’s real gross domestic product due to a boost from its latest stimulus package, the Nikkei newspaper reported on Thursday.

The economy is expected to expand by about 4.0% in the fiscal year starting April 2021, the Nikkei said, without saying where it got the information. That compared with a forecast for 3.4% growth released last July.

The government is also seen slashing its real GDP estimate for the current fiscal year to minus 5.0% to minus 5.5%, from the previous forecast of minus 4.5% due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, the report said.
